More things to do in Waterton

Here are some of the best things to do in Waterton, from outdoor adventures to afternoon tea!

Have tea at the Prince of Wales hotel

The Prince of Wales Hotel is almost 100 years old. It survived the most recent wildfires and is one of the most beloved historical landmarks in Waterton. You'll be charged $10 to park at the Prince of Wales. Make reservations ahead of time for afternoon tea and enjoy the building, history, grounds and VIEW!

Paddle Cameron Lake

Rent a canoe or kayak at Cameron lake and paddle next to the bears and wildlife in the surrounding woods! There is also a day-use area for picnicking.

Go for a mountain horseback ride

This is truly an UNFORGETTABLE experience. Waterton River Trail Rides is located at a ranch just 15 minutes outside of Waterton. The guides, horses, trails, scenery and views are amazing. You'll feel like you're one of the original ranchers exploring the land in Montana centuries ago!

Tip: There is more than one riding company in Waterton. While some are located within the actual town of Waterton, I highly recommend going with Waterton River Trail Rides as the land and views are remarkable when you're outside of the townsite.

Golf at Waterton Lakes Golf Club

Whether you play only 9 holes or the full 18, every single hole at Waterton Lakes Golf Club has a different view of the mountains. You'll feel like you're golfing in heaven! Some of the holes are incredible fun to play too. Expect a very small and old club house but friendly staff.

Go wildlife spotting

You don't have travel outside of Waterton to run into wildlife! You can find deer, mountain sheep, and bears on the streets, beaches, in people's yards and, of course, on any hiking trail.

Tip: Most of the animals are very used to people but they are still wild so treat them as such!

Tour the Waterton townsite

Visit Waterton's cultural center to learn about its nature, wildlife, and history. Stop in the shops and pick up a commemorative Waterton T-shirt or hoodie. Buy unique jewelry and trinkets at one of the many mom and pop shops. Grab ice cream or coffee and dine on a patio!

Relax and take in the beauty!

Find the famous red chairs and relax by the water. Walk along the beach and collect and throw rocks (build an inukshuk!). Bring a camp chair, make coffee outdoors and drink it with a view. Enjoy one of the many drives out to a trail. Watch the sunset. Sit and enjoy the beauty.

Tip: For the best star gazing, drive out on the Red Rock Pkwy. You don't need to drive out far, but once you get out there look up! Stay in your car (for safety from wildlife) but bring your camera!
